Jeanne Crousaud
Blessed with a luminous soprano voice and as a virtuoso of the higher range, Jeanne Crousaud was destined to play seria operatic roles, the tragic as well as bel canto heroines. Her imposing stature on stage, her mastery of the vocal line combined with a predilection for pianissimi high notes make her an actress of choice for the great French romantic repertoire, as well as the Mozartian and Bel canto repertoires
After graduating from the Paris CNSM (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique), Jeanne Crousaud was entrusted with two leading roles: Ciboulette in Offenbach’s Mesdames de la Halle at Lyon’s Opera Studio and Le Petit Prince in the opera of the same name by Michaël Lévinas (Châtelet theatre in Paris, Lausanne, Geneva, Lille) in which she was hailed as a great success.
These two jobs immediately set the scene for the young singer’s dual-career: one half dedicated to contemporary music and theatre, collaborating with the most-often performed composers of the century (Michaël Lévinas, Francesco Filidei, Jules Matton, Violeta Cruz, Jean-Luc Hervé); and the other focusing on French, Mozart and Italian repertoires (Blondchen in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Aspasia in Mitridate Re di Ponto, Fantasia in Le Voyage dans la lune, Elvira in L'Italiana in Algeri, Arthur in La Nonne Sanglante and Musetta in La Bohème.)
Lastly, she has produced some stunning recordings, including Le Pré aux Clercs by Ferdinand Hérold (for Palazzetto Bru Zane) and Auber’s La Sirène for Naxos.

We know all about the Piano Festival at Sea, now we are going to discover the Lyrical Festival at Sea, this being the first edition the intention being to repeat it each year. The principle is the same: gather together on the same ship some of the most beautiful voices of the day to bring singing and opera to life in a variety of repertoires. Fresh from her triumph playing Salomé at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, French-Danish soprano Elsa Dreisig will be rubbing shoulders with Swiss mezzo-soprano, Marina Viotti, as the tenor Thomas Bettinger duets with bass Jean Teitgen or the other soprano, Irina Stopina. Carried along by the lyrical piano of Antoine Palloc, much sought after by all the world’s singers, the recognisable timbres of these individual voices reveal their more secret souls as soloists in famous arias, or together in duets, trios and more if the affinity is there. And all this as we sail round the Iberian Peninsula, maybe inspiring deeply passionate repertoires from Portuguese shores to the colourful lively Spanish ports of call. At its heart will be the joy shared in experiencing the thrills and chills of the emotion in songs that these fabulous voices convey: passion guaranteed!

From the pier, board your coach and start your 2-hour scenic drive to the city of Granada which is lying at approximately 2,100 feet (650 m) above sea level, in the shadow of the mighty Sierra Nevada. The Moors stormed across the Strait of Gibraltar in the 8th century, and they were not driven out of Granada until 1492. During the intervening centuries, they brought a refined civilisation to the south of Spain; Granada, and particularly the Alhambra, represent the zenith of Moorish culture in this country.
On arrival, you will discover the old Albayzin Quarter, part of the UNESCO world heritage, from where you will enjoy a splendid view over to the Sierra Nevada, the Darro Valley, and the Alhambra itself.
After an early tapas dinner, enjoy an exclusive visit of the Alhambra by night.

The Nazrid Palace, named after the last dynasty of Sultans which made important reformations, is one of the finest examples of Islamic Art. Although damaged and restored over the centuries, it is not difficult to picture the place as it was in all its glory 600 years ago. The ceilings drip with stalactites in stucco, and each room appears more richly decorated than the previous one. Marvel at the delicate marble columns, graceful arcades and fine craftsmanship in the Sultans' "paradise on earth". The Hall of the Ambassadors and the Court of the Lions are considered as the gems of this oriental jewel box. From its windows you can look back across to the old quarter of Albayzin and the gypsy haunts of Sacromonte.
Finally, you will return to your coach for a 2-hour transfer back to your ship.
