You will be enchanted by the clear, warm waters, forest landscapes and villages of Lastovo, the most southern of Croatia’s inhabited islands. A former military base where tourism was banned, the island’s authenticity is intact. The layout of the main village, built into a hillside like an amphitheatre, dates from the 15th and 16th Centuries. The dwellings stand out from each other for their fumari, elaborately-decorated high chimneys. Protected by their national park status, the ten or so islands that make up the Lastovo archipelago are home to a significant biodiversity: puffins, corals, dolphins, green turtles and loggerhead turtles.
