This cruise can include activities such as zodiac outings and landings (sometimes with "wet landings"), moderate walks to more active hikes, all accompanied by naturalist guides.
Ports of call, visited sites, outings and landings will depend on weather conditions, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time. The Captain and the Naturalist team may at any time cancel or stop any activity, or even modify the itinerary. The final itinerary will be confirmed by the Captain, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. His decision will be based on advice from experts and authorities.
Travelling to isolated regions is an exhilarating experience. In remote areas, please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is expensive. Without adequate medical coverage, all expenses will have to be immediately paid with your personal funds. Ideal clothes for life on board:
During the days spent on board, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes or casual outfits. The entire ship is air-conditioned, so a light sweater, a light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. When moving about in the public areas of the ship and the decks, light but comfortable shoes are recommended.

Officer’s evening:

All our cabins have a safe. We recommend not to go ashore with valuable jewellery.

Protected since the 1970s, this small park, only 16 km² and bordered by the idyllic beaches of the Pacific Ocean, is home to rich biodiversity. Along peaceful paths or during a break on the beach, you will be welcomed by a tropical forest full of life: from the discreet sloth to the noisy howler monkey and the mischievous white-faced capuchin. On the southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula, the small Curú Wildlife Refuge is the oldest protected park in Costa Rica. This refuge is an exemplary site in terms of ecotourism as well as a research centre for scientists from all over the world. After a short zodiac trip, you will discover, via the paths that criss-cross the tropical forest and lead to magnificent beaches, the most emblematic species of Costa Rica: monkeys, iguanas and over 200 bird species. Travel with peace of mind as PONANT organises your daytime between your port of disembarkation and the airport.
Puntarenas
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
You will take the road for about 2h30 to reach the La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park, one of the best place to see wildlife in Costa Rica. It features five beautiful waterfalls and the largest animal sanctuary of the country.
You will be able to see birds, butterflies, monkeys, hummingbirds, snakes, felines and frogs, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of a lush tropical rain forest.
Lunch will be served in one of the reserve's restaurant.
After a guided tour of the park and some free time (if time allows it), you will be transferred to the airport in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight (1h travel time).
Your programme includes:
- Lunch with beverages package (mineral water + 1 soft drink or 1 local beer or 1 glass of wine + 1 coffee or tea).
- Transfers and visits as mentioned in the programme.
- Services of a local English-speaking guide.
Your programme does not include:
- Tips for the driver and local guide.
- Personal expenses and other services not mentioned in the programme.
Please note :
- Kindly note that a minimum number of participants is required for this activity to proceed. As a result, both the price and itinerary may be adjusted based on the final number of participants. Should the minimum number not be met, we will offer you an alternative arrangement.
- Please avoid open back sandals and flip flops and bring closed toed walking shoes or sneakers. The trails are all paved, so you won't be walking on natural unmaintained hiking trails.
- We recommend you to wear comfortable clothes because the waterfall trails are quite intense with lots of steps.
- As respecting the environment is important to us, we highly recommend you take your filled Ponant water bottle with you after your cruise, so you can use it on shore and avoid the use of plastic bottles whenever it is not strictly necessary.
