Marbella acquired its reputation as the place to be and be seen on the Costa del Sol in the late 1950s and 1960s when it was "discovered" by Europe’s rich and famous. It remains a center of tourism and also serves as a gateway to the riches of the entire region.
Your excursion begins with a walking tour of the maze of narrow streets of whitewashed houses with decorated balconies that is Old Town. Centered on the Patio de los Naranjos (Courtyard of Orange Trees), this is the section of town where you will find the fascinating shops and boutiques that have made Marbella famous. Here you will also find the town hall, the old governor's house, and the Chapel of Santiago. Wander through the garden of brightly colored flowers and orange trees surrounding a bust of King Juan Carlos 1, and stroll down the Avenida del Mar, adorned with fountains, trellises, and a collection of sculptures by Salvador Dalí.
A short drive inland brings you to the charming village of Mijas, built on a mountainside 1300 feet above sea level with panoramic views over the Costa del Sol. Follow your guide through narrow cobblestoned streets of tiny-whitewashed houses decorated with grill work and covered with bougainvillea and jasmine. Make your way to the upper terraces for the best views available, before sitting down to a typical Andalusian meal of meats, cheeses, gazpacho, and paella while being entertained with a performance of flamenco by local dancers and musicians.
After lunch, enjoy some time at leisure for independent exploration and browsing in the shops before returning to your ship.
· This is an active excursion, involving considerable walking (approximately 2.5 miles total) over sometimes uneven terrain and cobblestones, with inclines and some steps. It is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. Wear comfortable and sturdy shoes and layered clothing, and be sure to bring protection from the sun.

In the 9th century, Palermo was famed for the wealth of its court and for its universities. Today, it is a cosmopolitan and international city, famed for its modern treasures as well as for its priceless ancient monuments of architecture and art.
Palermo is also known for its food and wine and for the attention given to growing, preparing, and consuming them. This excursion offers an introduction to the highlights of the city and a glimpse of its contemporary food scene.
Begin with a drive through the picturesque streets of the ancient town and past the bustling crossroads of Quattro Canti that marks the center of Palermo. The architecture of this part of the city, including the Norman Castle that is now the seat of Sicilian government, is a fascinating blend of Byzantine, Arab, and Norman styles, representing the rich diversity that defines Sicily. Stop at Piazza Bellini for a visit inside the Chiesa di Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio to see its splendid Byzantine mosaics.
Then you're off to Palazzo Conte Federico, one of the oldest buildings in Palermo, where you will be hosted by the Countess Federico or one of her sons on a tour of their palatial home before enjoying a tasting of typical local food, including some of the street food (panelle, arancini, pizza, crocché, and more) for which Palermo is justly famous.
On the walk back to your waiting coach, you will pause briefly to appreciate the grandeur of Palermo's Cathedral and perhaps capture the moment on camera.
· This is a moderate excursion involving a total of approximately 1.5 - 2 miles of walking over mostly flat terrain with a few steps. We recommend comfortable walking shoes and adequate protection from the sun. The order of visits may vary.

Extend your experience of Central America from the coastline to the mountains on this specially designed program.
Day 1 – Puntarenas, Costa Rica | Monteverde Cloud Forest
Disembark your ship and meet your guide for a scenic drive to the world famous Monteverde Cloud Forest.
You may choose between two ways of experiencing this unique ecosystem: the first is a mile and a half 'Sky Walk' through the treetops on a trail including six hanging bridges. You will enjoy the refreshingly cool air at this altitude while looking out for the fascinating animals that roam here: howler and white-faced monkeys, the three-wattled bellbird, keel-billed toucan, bare-necked umbrellabird, and the gorgeous quetzal. The second tour visits a family-run farm where you will see sugar cane, coffee, and banana plants and view the stages involved in producing high-quality coffee. Ride an ox cart to the sugar mill (trapiche) where sugar cane is processed into brown sugar. End the visit by sampling the farm’s coffee and sugar cane products.
After your adventure in the clouds or on the farm, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the El Establo Hotel, where you stay the night. Dinner at the hotel is included.
Day 2 – Monteverde Cloud Forest | Arenal Volcano Area
After breakfast at the hotel, continue your exploration of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve on a 2-hour guided walk through one of the most biodiverse regions of Costa Rica, habitat for over 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, and 1,200 species of amphibians and reptiles.
Lunch at a local restaurant is followed by a scenic drive down the mountains to the Arenal Manoa Hot Springs Resort in La Fortuna, site of Arenal Volcano National Park, and your home for the next three nights.
Day 3 - Arenal Volcano Area
Depart after breakfast on an hour and a half drive through the Northern plains to Los Chiles, very near the Nicaraguan border, where you will board a boat for a floating safari along the Rio Frio through the rain forest of Caño Negro—a birder's paradise, home to the anhinga, the roseate spoonbill, wood storks, and the jabiru, the largest bird in Central America. Along the shore, you may catch sight of howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and white-faced monkeys, as well as the three-toed sloth and reptiles like caimans, Jesus Christ lizards, and turtles.
Return to your hotel for some time at leisure before dinner.
Day 4 - Arenal Volcano Area
Spend a relaxing day at Tabacon enjoying the resort’s thermal mineral springs and waterfalls or perhaps book one of their spa treatments (additional cost). Or join us on a hike in the Arenal Volcano area to explore the 1968 lava flows and take in extraordinary views of the smoking volcano and the surrounding landscape. The trail is filled with a diverse array of flora and fauna, including colorful birds, monkeys, and exotic plants.

Extend your experience of Central America from the coastline to the mountains on this specially designed program.
Day 1 – San José, Costa Rica | Arenal Volcano Area
Arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport in San José, where you will be met and transferred on a
two and a half hour drive to the Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa in La Fortuna, site of Arenal Volcano National Park, and your home for the next three nights. Join your fellow travelers for a welcome cocktail, followed by dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 - Arenal Volcano Area
Spend a relaxing day at Tabacon enjoying the resort’s thermal mineral springs and waterfalls or perhaps book one of their spa treatments (additional cost). Or join us on a hike in the Arenal Volcano area to explore the 1968 lava flows and take in extraordinary views of the smoking volcano and the surrounding landscape. The trail is filled with a diverse array of flora and fauna, including colorful birds, monkeys, and exotic plants.

Check out of the hotel and meet your guide for a scenic drive up the mountains to the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve, part of the world famous Monteverde Cloud Forest.
