Francesco da Mosto is an Italian architect, historian, and television presentere. Francesco comes from an ancient Venetian family with a rich maritime heritage. He studied architecture and art history at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice, and he earned a Scholarship in architectural history at the Université de la Sorbonne in Paris, became a collaborator for the course of Cinema, photography and Television at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice and worked as assistant director in cinema in Rome and then in Paris for documentaries.
Apart from short spells in Rome, Paris and sailing in the Mediterranean, he has lived in Venice all his life. Francesco presented the BBC TV series Francesco's Venice, Francesco's Italy, Francesco’s Mediterranean Voyage and Shakespeare in Italy, and wrote the accompanying bestselling books as well as Francesco’s Kitchen – an intimate guide to the authentic flavours of Venice. Besides his television career, where he won Voice of the Listener & Viewer Award, BAFTA for best photography, and Europa Nostra Heritage Award, Francesco da Mosto worked as architect controlling public works in the Venice lagoon, restored houses and had been in charge of the restoration and refurbishment of the official exhibition space for Luxembourg in Ca’ del Duca Sforza in Venice, designed public squares, and worked with Aldo Rossi as consultant architect/designer and local coordinator for the executive winning plans for the International Competition for the reconstruction of “La Fenice” Opera House in Venice.
Francesco has then authored books related to Venetian history and architecture, further establishing himself as a respected historian and writer. His passion for preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Venice has made him a prominent advocate for the city's architectural treasures.
Francesco is honorary patron of the "International Fundraising Committee of the British Red Cross".
