Like her sisterships, Le Boréal embodies the subtle alliance between luxury, intimacy and wellbeing which is PONANT’s signature. The elegance of her exterior and interior lines and her intimate size (only 132 staterooms and suites) make this a rare and innovative yacht on the cruise market.
Superior materials, discreet elegance and a tasteful décor reflect a nautical mood subtly revisited. Aboard, soothing neutral grey tones are enlivened by splashes of red, our signature theme linking tradition and innovation to create personal touches in the spirit of a “private yacht”.
Port of call & excursions
TromsoEmbarkation 27/06/2017 from 16H00 to 17H00 . Departure 27/06/2017 at 18H00 .
In the north of the Arctic circle you’ll discover Tromsø, a secluded town located in the county of Troms. Norwegians call it the “Paris of the north”. You’ll soon see why when you discover its extensive neoclassical architectural heritage. A stunning example is the Arctic cathedral, a major monument whose stylistic purity echoes the outline of the mountains surrounding the town.
28 June 2017 – Sailing along Bjornoya IslandArrival 28/06/2017. Departure 28/06/2017.
29 June 2017 – Hornsund, SpitsbergenArrival 29/06/2017. Departure 29/06/2017.
Nestling between millennial glaciers and carved mountains, and considered to be “the crown of Arctic Norway”, Spitsbergen is a place that never sees the night. Your ship will take you closer to this fascinating archipelago and, more particularly, the Hornsund fjord. Considered to be Svalbard’s southernmost fjord, it is especially reputed to be its most stunning: at the end of its vast bay, 8 great glaciers slowly make their way down to the sea before giving way to the many icebergs elegantly drifting along its cold and mysterious waters.
30 June 2017 – Bellsund, SvalbardArrival 30/06/2017. Departure 30/06/2017.
You will head to the Bellsund fjord to follow in the footsteps of the first explorers who came from the Norwegian coast, or those of the many fur traders seeking game and trophies. Boasting an astonishingly rich wildlife, the arms of the fjord separate to form two lush valleys. Give free rein to your imagination in the heart of this majestic natural environment where time seems to stand still.
1 July 2017 – Magdalena Bay - SpitzbergArrival 01/07/2017. Departure 01/07/2017.
2 July 2017 – Woodfjord Glacier of MonacoArrival 02/07/2017. Departure 02/07/2017.
Located to the North-West of the Svalbard archipelago, the Monaco Glacier is probably one of Spitsbergen’s most beautiful and majestic. Named in honour of Prince Albert I of Monaco, a sailor, it stands as an impenetrable, blue-tinged jagged wall, the last glacier before reaching a latitude of 80° North. Imagine the sound of the ice cracking as it breaks free and crashes into the transparent water. And to make the magical landscape even more perfect, you might be lucky enough to spot bears and whales, as these two animals have a special fondness for this area.
3 July 2017 – Ny AlesundArrival 03/07/2017. Departure 03/07/2017.
During your cruise, discover Ny-Ålesund, a former mining town that has been transformed into a scientific base. Founded in 1916, this small town was the departure point for many Arctic expeditions, including those of the famous explorer Roald Amundsen. Don't miss a visit to the museum and its famous post office, considered to be the most northerly in the world!
Longyearbyen, SpitsbergenDisembarkation 04/07/2017 at 07H00 .
Longyearbyen is the capital of the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago, located on Svalbard’s main island, and is the northernmost territorial capital on the planet. With winter temperatures dropping to below 40°C, the landscapes of this mining town are simply breathtaking. The glaciers, the mountains stretching as far as the eye can see and the untouched nature, make you feel like you’re in completely unexplored territory.

PONANT, polar specialists
With almost 20 years of experience in the extreme regions, PONANT, the world’s number 1 polar cruise company, is a real polar specialist. PONANT will take you to the most remote regions in total safety: our Captains and crew are professionals, specially trained to sail in icy waters. Our latest-generation fleet has the most modern technology to guarantee both your safety and respect for the regions visited. The size of our ships means we can get as close as possible to areas that are difficult to reach, offering a privileged access to preserved sites. Our flexibility enables us to adapt to the surprises inherent to these expedition itineraries.
Professional expedition teams, varied activities
After scouting missions in the field, our Expedition Leaders and their teams of naturalist guides design exceptional itineraries in the polar regions. During the cruise, they organise daily outings and shore visits in Zodiac dinghies and hikes on land so as to get as close as possible to nature and wild fauna. In the Arctic and in Alaska, the close relationships that our teams have been able to build with the local communities will enable you to understand the life of these peoples of the Far North, and to share it for a few hours. On board, the naturalist guides will share their knowledge during various conferences on fauna, the history of the great explorations, geology and climatology…
Flight Paris / Tromso + Transfers + Flight Longyearbyen / Paris
Embarkation day Paris / Tromsø
Paris - Tromsø on a chartered PONANT flight.
A hot meal with drink will be served during the flight.
Meet and greet by our local agent at the airport. He will introduce you to Tromsø culture and history.
Tromsø is a small and spirited city set largely on an island close to the wild of the polar region. Dominated by breathtaking snow-topped peaks and the starting point for many polar expeditions, the city enjoys a surprisingly pleasant climate and features round-the-clock activity during the almost perpetually bright days of summer. With many of its ancient wooden buildings lovingly restored, Tromsø is a pretty little city with plenty to please the eye. Tromsø centre is the largest wooden city north of Trondheim and has a rich architectural inheritance in the Imperial style of the 1800s, richly interspersed with both beautiful and not so nice buildings from later periods.
You will cross the city by bus and might be surprised first of all by the important number of wooden houses aligned according to old urban rules. Tromsø escaped undamaged by World War II and one of the few towns in northern Norway able to preserve its charming old buildings.
Visit of the Arctic Cathedral after having crossed the Tromsø bridge linking island to mainland. This amazing Artic Cathedral is one of the city’s most iconic modern landmarks. Inspired by Norway’s absorbing folklore and natural beauty its simple interior lends prominence to a spectacular triangular stained-glass window that fills an entire wall. A rich mix of native cultures also affords a unique insight into the Arctic’s indigenous traditions. Do not miss the stained glass window (140 square meters) depicting “the return of Christ”.
Your tour will end at the port for your embarkation.
Disembarkation day Longyearbyen / Paris
Disembarkation in Longyearbyen.
Meet and greet by our local agent at the port.
The administrative center of Spitsbergen, in the Svalbard Archipelago, is a gateway to the wonders of the high Arctic region.
Just 1300km from the North Pole, Longyearbyen has an average temperature of 7°C in July and
-21°C in February with less than 300 mm precipitation per year, from which larger part is in form of snow.
Almost all the colorful houses are built on poles to combat the permafrost (frozen ground), and the lion’s share of all produce is shipped or flown in.
Summer in this area is a magical time, when the sun never sets and the cries of migratory birds fill the air.
You will start your guided walk of Longyearbyen discovery through the old and new town, the valey up to Nybyen and will end at the traditional miner’s house.
A snack under an arctic lavvo tent will be offered prior to your flight.
Your tour will end with your transfer to the airport for check-in.
A late meal will be served on board the plane after the take-off.
Your program includes:
- Privatised flight Paris / Tromso and Longyearbyen/Paris in economy class, on European airline
- Airport / Port transfer - Port to airport transfer
- Visits and transfers mentioned above
- English speaking assistance
- Flights are subject to change without prior notice.
- Seats are limited and subject to availability.
- This is the referral program and the order of visits can be modified.
- For passengers in transit in Paris, we recommend to stay one night in Paris before and after this flight to ensure onward connections.
Expeditions programs include activities such as Zodiac® outings (often with "wet landing"), moderate walks to more active hikes. All this accompanied by your expedition team of naturalist guides. Calls, landings & zodiac® cruises will depend on weather conditions, position of ice (during polar cruises) and winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time.
Taking into consideration the unusual and exceptional character of expedition itineraries, the calls shown are an indication only. The final route will be confirmed by the Captain and Expedition Leader, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. Their decision will be subject to that of local authorities and the expert pilots present on board during the navigation in polar and /or isolated zones.
Travelling to polar/isolated regions is an exhilarating experience. The raw beauty and untouched wilderness offer an unusual chance to experience a place where there is little evidence of human presence. Inevitably, there are some consequences that come with such remoteness: please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is highly expensive. Without the necessary medical coverage, all expenses will have to be immediately paid for with your personal funds. We urge you to subscribe a full coverage insurance, choose your insurance company very carefully and be extremely vigilant and ensure your insurance is fully comprehensive.
