Set sail on an unforgettable 16-day expedition cruise aboard Le Soléal. PONANT is proposing an all-new transatlantic circuit that explores stunning archipelagos.

Your trip will begin in Brazil, where you will embark in the port of Recife.

Your first port of call, subject to obtaining the approvals, will be Fernando de Noronha. Located off the shoreline of Brazil, this small paradise offers a perfectly preserved wild setting, with long secret bays bathed in aquamarine waters. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the archipelago is home to many birds as well as to extraordinary marine life moving among the coral reefs.

You will then discover the Bissagos Islands, which belong to Guinea-Bissau and are recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This archipelago of over 80 islands, most of which are uninhabited, has managed to maintain its intimacy. Nature runs its course here, between lush vegetation and white-sand beaches. You will set off to encounter local communities who still live in accordance with their ancestral customs.

Further west, you will visit Mindelo, the cultural capital of Cape Verde, where the famous morna singer Cesaria Evora was born.

Your cruise will end in the Canary Islands, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife: a lively and cosmopolitan city combining modernity and authenticity.

    Guest(s) Lecturer(s)

    Jacques Rougerie

    Jacques Rougerie

A visionary architect born in 1945 and passionate about the sea, Jacques Rougerie has, for more than 30 years, based his research and his realizations on bionic and biomimetic architecture that takes in account the principles of sustainable development. His prospective vision and his taste for new technologies allow him to propose a better integration of the habitat in its natural environment, in particular the marine one, in order for humans to better find a fit in it. Thus he draws his inspiration from Léonardo da Vinci and his faith in the human ingenuity.

Jacques Rougerie builds underwater habitats and laboratories, marine research centers, vessels with see-through hulls, sub-aquatic museums and imagines major projects always linked to the ocean.

Hence he combines his two passions - the sea and architecture. He was elected in 2008 to the Institut de France – Academy of Fine Arts and like a true undersea explorer, he tests his own creations and has even lived several times in underwater habitats, famously participating in the world record achievement of living 71 days under the sea in the United States.

His flagship projects, SeaOrbiter and the City of Meriens, are a synthesis of more than 30 years of innovative research in marine and subsea architecture. Inspired by the imaginary work of Jules Verne, he has adopted his motto: "Anything one man can imagine, other men can make real".

    Important information

Expeditions programmes include activities such as Zodiac® outings (sometimes with "wet landing"), moderate walks to more active hikes. All this accompanied by your expedition team of naturalist guides. Certain zodiac® outings will not allow for landings just cruising. Landings will depend on weather conditions, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time.

Travelling to polar/isolated regions is an exhilarating experience. The raw beauty and untouched wilderness offer an unusual chance to experience a place where there is little evidence of human presence. Inevitably, there are some consequences that come with such remoteness: please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is highly expensive. Without the necessary medical coverage, all expenses will have to be immediately paid from with your personal funds. We urge you to subscribe a full coverage insurance, choose your insurance company very carefully and be extremely vigilant and ensure your insurance is fully comprehensive.

Taking into consideration the unusual and exceptional character of expedition itineraries, the calls shown are an indication only. The final route will be confirmed by the Captain and Expedition Leader, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. Their decision will be subject to that of local authorities.
